Other actions carried out by the project include buffer zones and nutrient balance calculations which aim at decreasing the agricultural loading entering water bodies.

Buffer zones treating agricultural runoff

In 2007 the project financed several buffer zone applications in the area. Financial support for the construction of buffer zones is given by the Government and EU.

Nutrient balance calculations

Possible risks for nutrient runoff from each field parcel can be identified by nutrient balance calculations. The use of nutrients can be improved by choosing the right plant species and most suitable methods of tillage.

The project performs nutrient balance calculations together with the Regional Environment Centre of Uusimaa.
